Yes, with a caveat worth being honest about. Output in June and July drops to roughly 40–55% of a clear February day, because panels run on diffuse light as well as direct sun. Across a full year Kannur still averages about 4.2 units per kW per day. Systems here are sized on the annual figure, and net metering is what makes it work: you bank surplus units with KSEB during the bright months and draw them back during the monsoon.

About 80 square feet of shadow-free roof per kilowatt, so a 3 kW home system needs roughly 240 sq ft. It does not have to be one continuous area — we routinely split arrays across two or three roof faces. What matters far more than total area is shading: a single coconut palm shadow crossing a string in the afternoon costs more output than losing a whole panel.

It depends entirely on the mounting structure, which is where cheap installations fail first. We use marine-grade anodised aluminium rails with stainless steel fasteners rather than galvanised iron, and design the structure for 180 km/h wind loading. Modules are rated at 5400 Pa snow and 2400 Pa wind. Galvanised iron structures near the coast start showing rust within three or four years; aluminium does not.

For most homes, no. A plain on-grid system is cheaper, simpler and has nothing to replace in year seven. Batteries make sense if outages genuinely disrupt you — if you work from home, run a clinic or a shop, or live where supply is unreliable. If that is you, a hybrid inverter with a small lithium bank sized to your critical load (lights, fans, fridge, router) is usually better value than trying to back up the whole house.

Cleaning, mostly. Dust and pollen cost you 5–10% of output if left through the dry season; the monsoon washes the panels for you. We include quarterly cleaning and an annual electrical inspection free for the first five years. Panels carry a 25-year performance warranty and have no moving parts. The inverter is the one component with a finite life — expect to replace it once, at around year twelve.
