The government pays for a large part of your roof.

Under PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, a residential rooftop system earns up to ₹78,000 paid straight into your bank account. We file the claim and chase it to release.

  • Up to ₹78,000
  • 4–6 weeks after commissioning
  • Filing included in our quote

What you get

₹30,000 for the first kilowatt.
₹78,000 is the ceiling.

The subsidy is banded, not proportional. Going from 2 kW to 3 kW adds ₹18,000; going from 3 kW to 10 kW adds nothing more.

1 kW

₹30,000

Suits a bill up to about ₹900 a month

  • Around 80 sq ft of roof
  • Roughly 126 units a month
  • System cost about ₹62,000

2 kW

₹60,000

Suits a bill up to about ₹1,800 a month

  • Around 160 sq ft of roof
  • Roughly 252 units a month
  • System cost about ₹1,24,000

Housing societies and residential welfare associations receive ₹18,000 per kW for common facilities, up to 500 kW.

What to keep ready

Six documents. That is the whole list.

Hand us these at the survey and you will not need to think about the application again. We do the portal registration, the KSEB filing and the follow-up.

  • Recent KSEB bill

Any bill from the last three months, showing the consumer number.

  • Aadhaar card

Of the person named on the electricity connection.

  • Bank passbook or cancelled cheque

The subsidy is transferred to this account, so the name must match.

  • Proof of ownership

Tax receipt, title deed or equivalent for the building.

  • A passport photograph

For the National Portal application form.

  • Mobile number linked to Aadhaar

The portal sends an OTP at registration and again at claim submission.

The claim, step by step

From application to money in the bank.

This is a reimbursement, not a discount. You pay the full amount, and the subsidy follows after commissioning — usually four to six weeks later.

  1. Step 1

    National Portal registration

We register your consumer number on pmsuryaghar.gov.in and submit the application against your KSEB connection. You sign; we file.

  2. Step 2

    KSEB feasibility approval

The section office checks that your transformer and service line can take the export. Usually a week to ten days in Kannur.

  3. Step 3

    Installation

Two to three days on a typical home roof. Only work carried out by a registered vendor qualifies — which is why our registration matters.

  4. Step 4

    Inspection & net meter

KSEB inspects the installation and fits the bidirectional meter. The system is formally commissioned on this date.

  5. Step 5

    Claim submitted

We upload the commissioning certificate and your bank details to the portal within a day of the meter going in.

  6. Step 6

    Subsidy credited

The amount is transferred directly to your account. In our experience four to six weeks from commissioning, and we chase it if it stalls.

A refund. You pay the full system cost, and the subsidy is transferred to your bank account after KSEB commissions the system. Be wary of any installer who offers to "deduct the subsidy from the quote" — they are either financing it themselves at a cost buried in the price, or they are hoping you will not notice when it does not arrive.

Yes, but the subsidy stops at ₹78,000 regardless of size. A 3 kW and a 10 kW system attract exactly the same amount. That does not make a larger system a bad idea if your consumption justifies it — it just means the extra capacity is funded entirely by you and pays back on its own merits.

Four to six weeks from commissioning is typical in our experience across Kannur district. The fastest we have seen was 34 days; the slowest ran to about eleven weeks because of a bank account name mismatch. Making sure the name on your passbook matches the name on the KSEB connection removes the single most common cause of delay.

Only with the owner's participation. The subsidy is tied to the electricity connection and the building, so the application needs the connection holder's Aadhaar and a bank account, plus proof of ownership. Tenants sometimes arrange this with a landlord who is happy to have the asset — but the paperwork has to be in the owner's name.

You are generally not eligible for a second central subsidy on the same connection. You can still expand the system, and the additional capacity is worth doing on its own economics — you simply will not receive a further grant. Tell us at the survey and we will check your consumer number against the portal before you commit to anything.

Yes. Only installations carried out by a vendor registered on the National Portal qualify for the subsidy, and the vendor's registration number is attached to your application. We have been registered since the scheme's first months. If another installer quotes you a lower price but is not registered, the ₹78,000 you lose will dwarf the difference.

We file the claim.
You just sign it.

Subsidy filing is included in every residential quote at no extra charge.
